"When a tornado watch is issued one Tuesday evening in June, twelve-year-old Dan Hatch and his best friend, Arthur, don't think much of it. After all, tornado warnings are a way of life during the summer in Grand Island, Nebraska. But soon enough, the wind begins to howl, and the lights and telephone stop working. Then the emergency siren starts to wail. Dan, his baby brother, and Arthur have only seconds to get to the basement before the monstrous twister is on top of them. Little do they know that even if they do survive the storm, their ordeal will have only just begun. . . ."

Entertainment Books
The entertainment books are in and ready for pick up. Please come in to pick up your order or make arrangements with Ms. Coleman if you have not done so.
Report Card Conferences

Fall Break
Campus School Fall Break is October 8th-19th. Intersession is the week prior. School will resume on Monday, October 22nd.
Multiplication
Multiplication fluency is so vital to the rest of your child's mathematical achievement. Please practice facts with your child at least 10-20 minutes a day. Several websites are available with printable flash cards as well as games and activities. Keep a set of flash cards in your car, in the kitchen, in their rooms, etc. The students got on multiplication.com this past week. They really enjoyed it! There is a link to this site at the bottom of the blog. I will continue to search for other helpful sites.

EPGY
EPGY
stands for Education Program for Gifted Youth and is implemented
through the Stanford University Mathematics Program. It is also known
around school as Stanford Math and we have been using
the program for several years.
The students will begin completing EPGY at home as a part of the required Homefun. This will be due EVERY FRIDAY by 8:00 am. The students usernames and passwords will be sent home with them on Monday
- If you have computer problems at home that prevent your child from completing their EPGY assignment, they may come to our classroom before school at 7:30 (at breakfast and early care in the playroom) to get it done.
- Students may also go the media room (Ms. Harris) and use an available computer before school.
Special thanks to Dr. Vasile Rus (Mara's dad) for coming in to share his
expertise with the third graders. Below are a couple of pictures from
his visit.
Grandparents Day was a huge success! It was so lovely meet everyone! Special thanks go out to our phenomenal room mothers (Stacey Sheppard, Holly Kulp, and Misty Stamper) as well as all of the parents who were able to volunteer for everything. It was a huge success, and it would not have happened without all of you. I will be posting pictures of the event soon!
Picture Day
September 13th is School Picture Day. Order forms and more information will be coming soon.
Trading Cards (Pokemon included)
A grade level decision has been made that students will not be allowed to bring trading cards. This has caused some problems with students throughout the grade level we and feel that this is the best solution. Please do not allow them to bring them. Thank you for your support.

It is a great book that integrates A LOT of what we are learning in social studies. For instance the students have created a class name, street names for our room, and have been diligently building their class houses. Make sure you look below the class pictures for important info!
