There are no after school activities next week, EXCEPT for Mrs. Cassidy and Mrs. Van Dyke's Friday classes.
Historical Figures Who Made a Difference
Historical Figures Who Made a Difference
Living
Wax Museum
The fourth grade has
one final project before the fast-approaching end of the school year arrives:
the Living Wax Museum Project. Students are to create a presentation, along
with a costume based on research they conduct for their chosen historical
figure. Your child’s historical figure is listed below. The main points that
should be included in the speech (but not limited to) are:
·
Dates and location of birth and death
·
Description of the location where they lived
·
Three significant events or contributions to the
world
Once the research is
finished, students will write a 30 – 60 second presentation containing the information
listed above. Speeches should be creative – students can add humor, surprise,
music, or even sound effects! The idea is that the students will “come to life”
as their chosen figure. The speech will
need to be written on note cards and should be in the 1st person. Two
sources are required and can be turned in either separately or on the back of
the students’ note cards. A RESEARCH PAPER IS NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS PROJECT.
Students
will also need to create a costume that embodies their chosen figure. This will
be a visual addition to the presentation, so it should be appealing to the eye,
instructive, and should also include a few items, or artifacts, that represent
their chosen figure. They should also
construct a box for coins to be dropped in that will be their cue to “come to
life”.
Here
is how the presentations will flow: Each student will be placed around the room
in costume, with props and note cards. Each student will be “frozen” in time
until an audience member places a coin in the student’s box. The student will
then come alive and present their speech to the audience members. It is not a
requirement that the students memorize their speeches.
The final copy of the speech (written on note cards)
along with two sources is due on Monday, May 18th. There
will be a “dress rehearsal” on Tuesday, May 19th. All costumes must come in on Tuesday,
and they will be returned on Thursday, May 21st, after the presentation.
Students’ presentations will be evaluated based on the rubric attached.
